Hello and welcome to the list. I'm not sure why your message subject said "SPAM" in it, but anyway. openSuSE v10.1 broke compatibility with the "Old World" macs. v10.0 will install just fine. I need some more info on your machine like drive size and how many and how much RAM before I can give more info. I'm also working on a series of articles on this site: http://www.lowendmac.com/stotler/index.html that are designed to cover installation on these machines. The column is new, but I am hoping to cover the installation of SuSE this wednesday. The main considerations are having the BootX boot loader, which I am assuming you have since you have Yellow Dog on your machine. If so, then you will need the v10.0 CDs, which are available here: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/iso/ And the torrent file is here: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-pp c-GM.torrent A couple of things to keep in mind: 1. The partitioner is kinda broken in v10.0. It will not properly format an HFS partition, but if you have Yellow Dog installed, you should be able to reuse the existing partitions. 2. More RAM is better. I've found that 256MB is a good amount for these machines. 3. Is your machine an actual Beige G3 or is it another model that has a G3 upgrade? This has some hardware specifics involved. 4. Are you installing on the same drive as MacOS? A PCI controller is faster and Linux will be able to use it whether it is a Mac card or a PC card. Let me know if you need more info.
