Hello! I'm experimenting SuSE ppc 7.1 on an "indigo" iMac . I understand this is one of the "new" Macs that still aren't totaly supported. Linux itself run's fine (let aside the boot process that's unpalatable - can't get the thing to boot macos by default, or if I get it then there is no way to boot linux), but weird things happen with my keyboard (it's an usb, "ps/2" like keyboard, actually very nice). - under linux it is configures as mac-fr_CH and works OK - under X it is configures as mac-fr_CH, macintish layout, and works fine most of the time: - under kde 1.2 it is configures as swiss french and works OK - under gnome it is not configured (I take it gnome uses the X settings) and is working fine, unfortunately gnome itself is unusable (gmc keeps crashing every 30 seconds) - under kde 2.01 and kde 2.1, whatever keyboard layout I choose, I get a total garbage, looks as if someone had played with the keycaps. I've been trying X and kde settings for 3 days until I figured out only kde 2 had the problem. I did not find anything in the archive either (well, I haven't read '2000 messages). Anyone got a clue to which layout to use in kde 2? I'm back working with 1.2 now but I kind of got used to version 2. Is this one of the 2001 iMacs?

There is a newer lilo which can have "default = macos", ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/powerpc/lilo/lilo.rpm

Is there something wrong with the keymap fr_CH in X? If yes, let me know what you miss.

Dont use the keyboard feature right now, it will install a PC keymap whit the results that you see. This will be "fixed" in 7.3. hmm, you say that you have a PC style keyboard? Maybe we can arrange something: put the line "echo 1 > /proc/sys/dev/mac_hid/keyboard_sends_linux_keycodes" into /etc/init.d/boot.local Edit rc.config, there is a KEYTABLE variable, put "fr_CH-latin1" in it. Edit /etc/X11/XF86config and change the line "XkbModel" from macintosh to xfree86. It should look like that: Option "Protocol" "Standard" Option "XkbKeyCodes" "xfree86" Option "XkbLayout" "fr_CH" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" This will enable a PC style keycode map. Do all 3 steps and reboot. Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...
