Thanks for the info. For pmud, i've installed the latest pmud available on the suse ftp servers, so it should have removed apm. There is still a lot of apm stuff on the disc though, even in the /proc directory, which may indicate that apm is still there... If you find out what exactly you removed, and how you did remove it, please tell me. This sleep thing is really driving me nuts!! For xmms, i indeed tried what you suggest, but with both /dev/cdrom and /dev/hde, but none worked. I'll try /dev/sr0 tonight (no audio cd available at work...).
