ide-scsi emulation freezes system
Ide-scsi emulation has worked til kernel-2.4.7-pre3. With any newer kernel (I tried 2.4.10/2.4.12/2.4.16), mounting my ide-cdrom freezes the whole system. This must be ppc specific. My i386 system is working fine with 2.4.16. PPC platform is b&w g3. Has anyone on the list the same problem? Grüßli, Micha

Hello, I can't help, sorry, but I had a similar problem with an iMac with incorporated ide-CDburner No problem to emulate the CD-burner as scsi like I did with the PC I use at home. To make an image with mkisofs: no problem. But, as soon as I try to burn the CD with cdrecord -v -T -r -J -eject speed=x dev=x,x,x /dir_with_my_image the system freezes with a hard shutdown as only alternative. Thus I have a beautiful CD-burner I can't use at work. Any idea how to solve the problem? -- Alain Barthélemy bartydeux@gminformatique.com http://bartydeux.gminformatique.com

It freezes here on an iMac and a B&W. The plain 2.4.18-pre3 tree from kernel.org might work. At least the linuxppc_2_4_devel tree does not freeze. Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...

Bug fixed, new rpms can be found here: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/2.4.16/k_deflt.rpm 2.4.12 worked fine on the pismo PowerBook, it doesnt have the offending patch. Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...

Thanks a lot Olaf, ide-scsi emulation and sound is working again. It took me a bit to figure out how to boot your k_deflt.rpm on my system. My root filesystem is on a scsi disk. Since aic7xxx isn't compiled into the kernel anymore, I tried to make an initrd file with mk_initrd. That failed with creating initrd "//boot/initrd" for kernel "//boot/vmlinux" (2.4.16) module aic7xxx is "/lib/modules/2.4.16/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx.o" -> insmod aic7xxx mount: Konnte kein freies »loop«-Gerät finden failed to mount image While mounting an image file as a loop device is no problem, I started to look at mk_initrd. The version from 7.1 is still working smoothly on 7.3. There must be bug in the 7.3's mk_initrd. Can you figure that out? Grüßli, Micha
