I have no idea any more! it is probably easy but i can't figure this out I have a PowerBook G3 (bronze) SuSE 7.0 kernel 2.4.1 a week ago i figured that i should update the kernel from the SuSE Site. so i downloaded the rpm files and installed them. Then, I rebooted the machine and no modules got loaded. confused and disturbed i managed to cd my way into the /lib/modules/ dir but everything was there. I used insmod -k and everything was OK ( until next time I reboot) but in the long run manually load every module is not very fun. So how do i get the kernel to figure out the path to the modules? i have attached the boot log to this message. if someone could help me i would be very grateful Regards Even Inspecting /boot/System.map-2.4.1 Loaded 18468 symbols from /boot/System.map-2.4.1. Did you also put the updated vmlinux file on the MacOS-boot side? regards nicola (sorry Even: I mistakenly sent this message to you instead of the list).

Yes, I also renamed it vmlinux. In the linux boot folder I took and copied and renamed the vmlinux-2.4 to vmlinux I also did the same with the other files ( just in case) Regards Even

I have a PowerBook G3 (bronze) SuSE 7.0 kernel 2.4.1

I used insmod -k and everything was OK ( until next time I reboot) but in the long run manually load every module is not very fun.
So how do i get the kernel to figure out the path to the modules?
If you install Kernel 2.4x please also download and install the new modutils ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/modutils-2.4.1-0.ppc.rpm -- Rolf Schmidt SuSE PowerPC Support Team

Done and installed, but I still get: modprobe :can't locate module eth0 Regards Even

check for the runing kernel version: `uname -r` run `depmod -av` to create a fresh dependencies file check modules.conf for alias eth0 bmac If you have to add that line, run depmod again. I had no problem with network modules. Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...
