Hello, I would like to upgrade OpenOffice on my G3 Do I just have to delete the directory /OpenOffice.org638 were all the files are installed (but the /user directory too!!!) and then reinstall/recompile oo641b_installer.tar.gz? Or which files do I have to delete before installing/compiling the new version. Is there maybe a newer version of OpenOffice? Thanks -- Alain Barthélemy
Hi,
I would like to upgrade OpenOffice on my G3
Do I just have to delete the directory /OpenOffice.org638 were all the files are installed (but the /user directory too!!!) and then reinstall/recompile oo641b_installer.tar.gz?
Or which files do I have to delete before installing/compiling the new version.
There really is no upgrade technique other than complete replacement. Here is the procedure. 1. First look in the main install location to find any files you may have stored there and save them someplace not inside the OpenOffice.org638 directory (it is going to be removed). 2. If you did a net install do the same thing in the OpenOffice.org638 directory in your own home directory (i.e. save and files you might have stored there). 3. Then you must remove all traces of the old install first, this includes the following files/directories: OpenOffice.org638 (and everything in it) $HOME/OpenOffice.org638 (if it exits, and everything in it) $HOME/.sversionrc $HOME/.user60.rdb There are newer version of OpenOffice.org on the SuSE Mirror (or just look on the www.openoffice.org site under Download and you should find links to the pcc linux versions). I recommend version OO641C version (ca) although I have had one bug report from one SuSE 7.3 PPC user who could not get this version to start up. Or waiting, a pre 1.0 release for ppc Linux exists on my machine and should be released soon. Hope this helps, Kevin
Is there maybe a newer version of OpenOffice?
