Hi all, sorry to repost this but I'm still stuck ... don't even know which log files to look at. I've upgraded from 2.2.16 kernel to 2.4.2-11, I installed the k-deflt rpm on the linux side .. put the 2.4.2-11.gz file in the /boot directory and use the copy option in lilo to copy the vmlinux file over to the hfs partition so I can boot it with bootx.. I also upgraded ppp and modutils. now I can boot into my new kernel but I only get about 5 minutes in kde before it freezes completely forcing me to hard reboot the machine. what am I doing wrong? I'm using a B&W G3 with a Suse 7.0 install. many thanks, -- - ____________________________ - Jonathon Wallen - B,DES College of Fine Arts, UNSW - z2213441@student.unsw.edu.au - jwal707@cse.unsw.edu.au - jonathon@fridge.unsw.edu.au - ____________________________

I think it is related to sound. Can you try a newer kernel? ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/2.4.16/k_deflt.rpm It requires also newer modutils: ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/modutils.rpm Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...
Twice I've tried to download Mozilla 0.9.6 from the SuSE ftp site. Both times the download stalled frequently and overall speed was slow. Then about halfway through the download my screen froze. Both times. Once using Konqueror and again using lynx. I've never seen lynx freeze a screen before in my life, and I use Mac OS. Mac OS 9.1 freezes about once a month (this is a big improvement over previous Mac OSs) but lynx is never the culprit! Nothing else of consequence was running on linux when the freezes occurred. Beige G3, kernel 2.2.18, 384 MB RAM, wvdial, KDE2. Question: Is there a SuSE mirror from which Mozilla 0.9.6 may be downloaded? URL, please. I've looked around but have been unable to find one. Question: Is there any reason why I shouldn't download the rpm from mozilla.org? Are there any modifications that I should make to the non-SuSE rpm when installing it? Re: [suse-ppc] upgraded kernel - kde now freezes.
Sorry, I accidentally forgot to change the subject line before posting. I _am_ experiencing freezes but I have _not_ upgraded the kernel. On Thu, 17 Jan 2002, I, Thomas Armagost (silly@well.com) wrote:
