can't get PCMCIA recognized (nothing in proc/devices)
I'm on 7.1 using kernel 2.4.2 on a TiBook. This configuration is stock and should include the PCMCIA drivers, but I'm getting the following during the boot sequence: PCMCIA: using schem: SuSE modprobe: Can't locate module i82365 modprobe: Can't locate module i82365 /lib/modules/2.4.2/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o: init_module: Operation not permitted /lib/modules/2.4.2/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.2/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.2/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o: insmod ds failed cardmgr[216]: starting, version is 3.1.22 PCMCIA: cardmanager is running cardmgr[216]: no pcmcia driver in /proc/devices cardmgr[216]: exiting a review of the contents of /proc/devices reveals that there is in fact nothing about pcmcia. At this stage I've exhausted my limited expertise. Can anyone offer a suggestion? thanks very much Regards, Shawn Gordon President theKompany.com www.thekompany.com 949-713-3276
May I add to this that my attemtp to install Suse 7.0 on a PowerBook 3400 went through smoothly (PCMCIA Cardmanager running) however when I try to insert my TDK Modem card the system comes to a halt with no further message ... Michael Goedicke Shawn Gordon wrote:

It appears twm and no way to start gnome. Any hints ? There appear to be a lot of problems with getting Gnome 1.4 running smoothly on PPC. The mailing lists have been full of frustrated people. SUSE has a note on their site saying they will have Gnome 1.4 packages ready soon. I would wait until then. good luck ;-) Joss -- http://www.josswinn.org

Its available now, please use a mirror: http://www.suse.com/us/support/download/ftp/int_mirrors.html /mirror/SuSE/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/GNOME/update_for_7.1/ There will be a "official" list, you can use the i386 package list for now: http://www.suse.de/de/support/download/GNOMES/index.html I found no english version of that list on the webserver... Sound doesnt work very well with GNOME 1.4, but thats a ppc issue. Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...

English version is here: http://www.suse.com/en/support/download/GNOMES/i386/update_for_7_1/index.htm... Useful for deciding which packages to install. Thanks for the info, Olaf. Joss -- http://www.josswinn.org
