It is a question of the available ressources ... We skipped the 7.2 PPC to have more time and power to work on the 7.3 PPC. Against all the rumors, SuSE is not hunting the 8.x ... in this case we would have called the 7.2 intel allready 8.0 ... ;-)

Mandrake is another company , so I can not speak for them ... ;-) and their PPC Port is still called a Beta.
so what is the near future of your ppcport?
The support of the PPC plattform is strong and will continue. But, we also want to support the pSeries (we allready do) and the iSeries (we will do in the near future) from IBM. This means, we have to support the OldWorld Macs, the NewWorld Macs, the clones, the RS6000, the pSeries, the iseries and so on .... If you look how different this plattforms are, you will understand that a small team can not produce a distribution avery 4 month.
