*I want to get X4 running with acceleration. So far, X3 is loaded by default and a little play with SaX2 hasn't been much fun :-( Does anyone have any XFConfig tips that will work in 7.1?
Go in runlevel 3, try sax2 -af and do a reboot (I know, reboot sounds ugly but it helps to make sure that the framebuffer does not get confused). Then try again X. If needed use sax2 again for color etc. ...
Arghh... that screwed up my X-config. 'sax2 -af' obviously works for some Pismos. But not for mine! I had a fresh installation. I didn't tamper with anything before. The XF86Config didn't work. /var/log/XFree86.0.log says: Almost all modelines deleted (hsync or vrefresh out of range), Tried default mode "640x480": 36.0 MHz, 43.3 kHz, 85.0 Hz X started but was shifted out of the left edge and had a horizontal bar (approx. 15 Pixel high) at the bottom third of the screen. I'm no expert on XFree86. So I was stuck. It took me some time to figure out how to go back to XFree86 Ver. 3: root: # switch2xf86-3x root: # ln -sf /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_FBDev /var/X11R6/bin/X It took me sufficiently more time to get a working XF86config for V4. The publicly available XF85config files didn't work. I used some tips on http://www.pro-linux.de/t_system/yellowdog.html If someone at SuSE wants to delve into this, I can send you my logfiles, serial number etc. If anyone is experiencing the same problem, I can send my XF86Config.
*How do you stop the damn trackpad from acting as a mouse button? The slightest press of the trackpad opens and closes windows and it's very annoying. She is running KDE2.
Try the trackpad utility from http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/yellowdog/1.0/champion-1.2/ppc/YellowDog/RPMS/t... It worked for me. Regards Torsten Behle
well, looks like a reply to one of my old messages that were accidentally re-sent a couple of days ago....sorry, I opened up KMail for the first time, it found all of my old sent mail and proceeded to resend it without warning.... Re: the PISMO: The instrucitons below didn't work for me either but I did get X4 working well in the end. The trackpad, too. cheers and sorry again for the re-sent mail. Uhm.. actually... no. I found your email in the archive. The only answer to it re. X4 screwed up my system and I wanted to prevent it happening to others reading through the archive. And since sax2 was the source of misconfiguration - I think SuSE should consider fixing the hardware database. Or at least add a hint to the SDB. ............?? I already read that you had X4 running - however, you didn't tell _how_ you succeeded. Regarding the trackpad - there wasn't an answer at all, so I thought I put my oar in - there are surely other people having this problem. Torsten
