Re: [suse-ppc] Internal Modem not detected
If it is the same problem as it was on my system, you just have to load the kernel module "macserial" with the command: "modprobe macserial"
Let see whether it helps.
Thanks, that was the problem. My system now recognizes the modem. However now my machine gives ppp error [4] no kernel support for pppd I tried the same command "modprobe ppp" but nothing changed. Do you know how I can enable kernel support for ppp? Thanks again for the help- Todd Marek

Do you have a selfcompiled kernel? What ppp version do you use? Kernel 2.4 requires ppp 2.4 or later. Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...

No I installed off of a suse disk I picked up at a local retailer.

Not posisitve. How would I check? Thanks for the help- Todd Marek

Look at /var/log/messages, there should be some ppp output. 7.0 has an old version of pppd, you need /mirror/SuSE/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/ppp-2.4.0-3.ppc.rpm and /mirror/SuSE/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/modutils-2.4.1-0.ppc.rpm Can you load any modules? run /sbin/lsmod Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...

Gruss Olaf
All I get is
"Module size usedby"
can you run "depmod -ae" and "uname -a" as root? I guess the kernel doesnt match the modules for some reasons. Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...

I guess the kernel doesnt match the modules for some reasons.
Gruss Olaf
"depmod -ae" responds "can't open /lib/modules/2.2.18/modules.dep..." "uname -a" replies with the date and "unknown ppc" Thanks- Todd Marek

ok
"uname -a" replies with the date and "unknown ppc"
It should look like that: Linux Tangerine 2.4.2 #1 Thu Mar 1 07:30:34 GMT 2001 ppc unknown 2.4.2 is the kernel version in this case. mount CD1, and run "rpm -Uvh /suse/images/k_pmac.rpm" and "depmod -a" This will install the modules for that kernel.
