Anything new about a SuSE 8.x for PPC?
It has been a while since the great SuSE Linux 7.3 for PPC. Are there any news about a new PPC version? -j -- Janus Sandsgaard http://janus.dk
SuSE is more interested in enhancing SuSE for IBM's PowerPC's not Apples. Im sure if enough of us PPC users got together and forced SuSE they would release a new version. On Wednesday 30 July 2003 21:24, Janus Sandsgaard wrote:

Nope, I'm afraid we tried that last year...:-( hence so many of us switched to Gentoo and Yellow Dog consider it, seriously, it's worth it

If SuSE would hire me, I wpould continue to enhance it myself and continue development for Apple PPC, I have applied for a job with SuSE, hell I would even consider moving to Germany to do it, but they really didnt seem interested as they havent replied yet, I didnt even get the standard " Thanks for applying " email or postal letter. There is technical competence here to do it, just our product management does not consider a PowerPC distribution to bring in the costs of producing it (including manuals, cd presses, printing). Ciao, Marcus

Ciao, Marcus <mime-attachment>
How would it fair to just produce the Cd's. I know I had a hard time installing it the first time but the manuals weren't much help. Online references and this list and others were though. I would love to use some my older macs for something useful. I've since moved to pc based hardware for SuSE/Linux (and osx on the g4) but the ppc runs so much smoother. Just a curiosity. Thanks will

I did what I could: Bought SuSE Linux 7.1 for PPC, and then happily payd for 7.3 a few months after, hoping for a 8.x. ;-) I guess the marked for PPC-Linux is small, with Mandrake and YellowDog (and Gentoo and Debian) around. Also Apple move to OS X might have narrowed the marked potential for Unix on a PowerBook. -j -- Janus Sandsgaard http://janus.dk
