Hello everyone, I haven't used Linux before but have a Mandrake disk and am contemplating to buy SuSE. I would like to know if there is a program which one can use to remoteley log into other machine via LAN, WAN or the Internet. Have a look at OpenSSH. SuSE runs it. It's a great replacement for telnet. Can be run from command line on any UNIX machine. PuTTY is a great client for Windows and MacSSH for Mac OS. Both are free. Make a Google search for SSH, OpenSSH, PuTTY and MacSSH. best, Yuri
You can use OpenSSH or a commercial one. If you are on a mac you can use nifty telnet ssh or f-secure or several others. The favorite one on windows I think is puTTY and again f-secure is available as well as many many others. One thing the f-secure client does is enable port forwarding, which means you can have other protocols wrapped in ssh -- i.e. if you have a intranet web server, you can do http over ssh and access the web server relatively securely. Suse is a highly functional distro. I don't know mandrake, but the sysadmins in big public networks I know won't let mandrake within 10 feet of their boxes. on 7/3/01 7:37 am, vulani@webmail.co.za at vulani@webmail.co.za wrote:
