Hi,
What's the easiest way for me to configure a firewall (SuSE 7.1, 2001 iMac)?
I *will* get around to reading up on ipchain etc. but for the moment it's
most important that I have something protecting me from those nasty hackers!

You can (I think it is turned on by default anyway), use the
Personal Firewall. It uses the 2.2 ipchains.
This basically stops everything without consideration. Look at your bootup
messages as you boot and see if it is enabled.
I use the stuff on Marcs page
http://www.suse.com/~marc
Firewall2 for kernel 2.4/iptables is easy to set up, I ran the hardening script and have
not
been inconvenienced by it's changes and there is also the security
check package there, too which does daily, weekly and monthly checks
for you automatically. Just read the docs first of course! Marc
has done a very good job of making it very easy to deal with.
