Stefan Thanks a lot - that definately got things started. With the above kboot, the PS3 automatically kicks off the install on the dvd, and it installs, and it installs - but - there is always a but . During installation of boot manager, I get an error, that I am sure I read about elsewhere, but cannot find again. I get a white background window, with blue title bar, and black text saying: Error occurred while installing ppc. /usr/bin/stat: cannot stat '/boot/vmlinux': No such file or directory /usr/bin/stat: cannot stat '/boot/vmlinux': No such file or directory ERROR: can not find major:minor 0:0 for Any hints? I sense I am almost there :-) Thanks so far! If someone else sees the same, just try beta2, it installed with no glitches on my PS3 firmware 2.30 (40 gb version - no cardreader) quite slow though - we should do as Yellow dog, and if low on memory, mount the swap as soon as the partitioning is done and use it during the installation. Another funny observation - neither network card worked (wifi nor eth0) after install, I "configured" eth0 using yast, and it claimed need to install packages (kinternet etc), but only suggested to get them from internet, while the DVD was inserted, this is not practical, when configuring the network :-) kind of a catch 22. Running rcnetwork restart from a console allowed yast to finish, and it added channels and all kind of wonders. Graphic kind of sucks though - the fonts on the desktop barely readable - I am in graphics mode 1080i. Any suggestions welcome :-) Thomas

I have a faint idea what might be going on. /boot/vmlinux does not exist, it might be called something like /boot/vmlinux-ps3. Before the bootloader installation you might create a symlink ln -s /boot/vmlinux-ps3 /boot/vmlinux. Please make a bug report and assign the bug directly to me. That's the right way to handle it and keeps track of progress.
