Installation problem Suse 7.1 PPC on IBM B50
Hello there, i'm trying to install suse 7.1 ppc on an IBM RS/6000 B50 server. i tried installing it accordingly to the instructions on the manual but was faced with serious problems. after booting from the CD 2 ( CHRP Based computers ) the boot process freezes at: ramdisk loaded at 0x1900000, size 753253 bytes instantiating rtas at 00600000 ... done copying OF device tree... done returning 01400000 from prom_init we have looked all around for help, including Suse's knowledge database, google and other places with no success. the server is installed with AIX and functioning perfectly. it does not look like a hardware problem. please help, i have never seen anything like it before and it is not mentioned anywhere. thank you -- Alex 1100001 1101100 1100101 1111000 1100001 1110100 1011010 1100101 1110010 1101111 1001011 1100101 1101100 1110110 1101001 1101110 1100100 1101111 1110100 1100011 1100011
actually, i did something pretty dumb... posted without reading the archives, for that, i'm sorry. i found out that all i had to do was specify the console=ttyS0 as an argument to the kernel. although now i have a new problem! :)) when entreing YAST from the serial console, everything stops working, so that is as far as i could get with the installation. can anybody tell me how to bypass this? thank you a lot!!! -- Alex 1100001 1101100 1100101 1111000 1100001 1110100 1011010 1100101 1110010 1101111 1001011 1100101 1101100 1110110 1101001 1101110 1100100 1101111 1110100 1100011 1100011 On Wed, 20 Feb 2002, Alex Soares wrote:

Does that happen with the XFree86 4.2 update on 7.1-ppc? Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...
I am not sure.. I am running PPC 7.3. I cant seem to find a reference to the variables anywhere in the SuSEconfig scripts. This doesn't appear to affect KDE or Gnome. Though I rarely use either of those sine I am very much a command line kind of guy when it come to Linux/Unix. Thanks Benjamin On 3/1/02 4:24 PM, "Olaf Hering" <olh@suse.de> wrote:
