[opensuse-ppc] v11.0Beta1 - WOW!
I'm currently installing v11.0Beta1 on my Wallstreet II, and I must say that I am amazed by the difference in speed of the installation. It's many times faster at everything. Also, unchecking packages, like OpenOffice, deselects all associated packages instead of complaining about how other packages require it. I am very impressed, especially considering the fact that this is running a G3/266 with 320MB RAM. If you haven't tested Beta1, please check it out. While it's still installing, I must say that so far, it's one heck of an improvement speedwise. Ok, installation is now done. Had a pretty large problem tho(managed a work around). After the initial reboot, on the "Old World" machine, you have to start the installation and then select "start installed system" and select the partition that the system is installed onto. However, no matter what I did, I could not get the installed system to start. VERY frustrating. Re-installed 2 times with the same results. Had to boot the rescue system and copy the initrd and vmlinux files from the /boot directory to the MacOS partition so that I could boot the new files directly from BootX. That worked. Suggestion: Have the installation initrd and linux32 files available to be downloaded seperately and also have the regular initrd and vmlinux files available to be downloaded as well. Perhaps archive all 4 files? One other issue: My Atheros based PCMCIA wifi card was detected, but was not setup properly(which is something that has never been detected properly before). I am compiling the module from source. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org
