Hello I've just bought and installed SUSE 7 on my summer 2000 iMac DV SE and am really very impressed. I have a few things I'd like to get working and am hoping someone could tell me what my chances are. *Audio CDs are not recognised and won't mount *MOL doesn't work after following instructions *USB Zip drive is not recognised *I have an NTT-ME MN 28mini USB ISDN TA and I'd like to get 64/128k rather than using the 56k Apple internal modem. *I have a USB Kritter web cam that would be nice to get working! *I suppose a Firewire CD burner (QueFire) is out of the question?? *iSUB Audio Speaker? *My keyboard is the standard Japanese keyboard (I live in Japan) but choosing the Japanese keymap doesn't work. *The latest KDE2 downloaded from suse today gives the foloowing error at login: "could not read network connection list. Check that dcopserver is running". The beta on the install CDs and a 2.0 version I have from another CD don't give me any errors and I can log in OK. Are any of the above fixable?? What does not work? mol must match the kernel version, this was not always the case in 7.0 (with the update kernels).

You have no load the module usb-storage, its possible that you need a newer kernel. 2.2.18 should be fine.

Never heard about that, try 2.2.18. I don't know how to setup a USB modem, just have a look at support.suse.de.

insmod audio this loads the usb audio module, it works at least with cube audio.

I have a first gen iMac DV SE (g3 400). You may have to install that Ethernet patch.. I did when I thought mol wasnt working (turns out, my /etc/molrc was wrong) and everything works great. I installed the Ethernet patch when i was booted to mac..then FTP'd
Hello All, the new Mac ROM to another linux machine. I then took that rom and then ran that strip_nwrom command on the new ROM. Make sure your molrc is booting to the right partition.. my molrc says blkdev: /dev/hda9 -rw If you'd like, I can send you my config file.. its currently setup to run only from console.. startmol from a console runs MacOS 99% as fast as booting right into the real thing (AMAZING!!) If none of this helps, please give more details about the problem.

You may want to manually start dcopserver. A side note, I found that KDE 2.0 wasnt very pretty. I'd always used KDE because I loved the Interface..but this new default interface isnt visually pleasing in my opinion. I switched to Gnome using Sawfish and its really pretty. Japanese Mac OS puts it under the US keymap (even though it is different to a US keyboard) but neither the Japanese nor US keymaps are accurate for my keyboard in SUSE. CD work with SuSE in the sense that you can here them, but you cannot mount them like a data CD. And this mounting will not work with LinuxPPC too.

Hm, take the Kernel 2.2.18 from ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/2.2.18/ and the mol from ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/mol/ and you will be able to run mol with every actual MacOS. The version o the CD supports only MacOS up to 9.0. The version 9.0.4 and 9.1 requires the update.

You may want to manually start dcopserver.
This is only a workaround, but no real solution. Did you really install everything? Maybe you have to put all the files together in one folder and install with the following command: rpm -Uvh --force *.rpm
How do I do that?

You have to make sure, that yaboot loads the new kernel, but the kernel itself should run out of the box. have look at the Supportdatabase at www.suse.com. Look for the keyword PPC and you will find some articles which will help you.

Of course, you're right. I never could mount them but I could hear them. Only now I can't hear them. The CD player (as root or user) won't recognise any audio CDs. Thanks for your long and useful post. Lots to work on. Joss
