RE: [suse-ppc] first XFree86 4.2.0 rpms uploaded
Olaf, Does 4.2.0 support the ATI Rage128 Ultra that's in the most 2001 iMacs (instead of the Rage128 Pro). It has a different pci device id, and sax2 with 4.0.x complaints about it (on 7.1 which I have) Jaap-Jan

Hi,
thanks for the fast RPM creation !!
What about RPMs for 7.1 ? Or can I savely install the RPMs for 7.3 on 7.1, too ? I saw that for i386 they already made RPMs for all 7.x versions.
Also,
can you explain the relation between X 4.2.0 and certain kernel modules (e.g. what exactly is required, agp* ?, fb-radeon ?, what should NOT be in the kernel)
Dont use them right now, someone droppend the keyboard patch, its all screwed right now...
7.1 rpms will follow when it is a bit more tested ;)

Hi,
the first XFree86 4.2.0 packages can be found here: ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/supplementary/X/suse73/4.2.0/
Only Rage128 is tested so far. Radeon should work now, you might need kernel 2.4.16 or later. Mach64 seems to work, but I havent testet it on the Powerbook and iBook. Matrox does not work right now. fbdev should work as usual.
Download all rpms (maybe that way): wget -r -l 1 -A .rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/supplementary/X/suse73/4.2.0/
Then install them: rpm -Uvh *.rpm Then run `ldconfig ; SuSEconfig`.

The 4.1 rpms know that pci ID and its now in the official 4.2 tree. 7.3 should work fine, but I have no special report about the TR chip. You could try the 4.1 rpms from the ftp server. read http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/olh_ppc_71_xf410.html for the details. If you plan to jump straight to 4.2, wait for the 7.1 rpms.
