Hi, What is wrong with the current ppc compiler? Franz Sirl has a 2.93 -2f rpm set he has put togther that has lots of stuff backported from the current cvs tree. I have been building and using the KDE 1.9.X series with no problems to this point built from the source tarballs? What changed in the final KDE 2.0 series that prevents the current tool chain from working (binutils .24, gcc 2.93-2f, glibc-2.1.3)? Specifics would help here? Thanks, Kevin On Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at 10:07 AM, Matthias Fruehauf wrote:

I downloaded the rpms for KDE 2 today but they are marked for SuSE 7.0PPC - which doesn't seem to exist on the SuSE website... Will these rpms work fine with my 6.4PPC install?
For the moment, the situation on PPC is a little bit problematic:
Due to compiler reasons, it is not possible to build a really rock solid KDE2 for PPC, especially for 6.4.
The packages you mention are for the upcoming 7.0, and they probably only work under 7.0. They still have some problems even under 7.0, which may be corrected in the future.
For the 6.4, there is no possibility to build really working packages at the moment. Maybe this will change, but I guess it won´t. :-(

I´m not so familiar with the whole stuff, that I could explain you what is going wrong exactly. But as far as I know, if the compiler makes problems, it does not neccesarely mean that it don´t compile, but there are problems afterwards. Franz Sirl also builded KDE2, but (again) as far as I know, he did not release them untill now. So I think, there are still some problems. The code is OK so far, otherwise it would not work on the other plattforms like intel or sparc. Every hint is welcome, but for the moment it seems that there is still something to do at the compiler.
