I am running SuSE 7.3 and MacOS X on a TiB G4 667MHz. This must be in between the two TiB's above. The MacOS X BSD is rather different from what I am used to and X windows needs to be installed. The network setup uses special Apple extensions like lookupd and netinfo, and configurations files like hosts are not read by default. I use Fink to run X windows and other Linux software such as nedit and a slightly flawed g77.
that's pretty much what i need to be having on my tibooks. a working linux environment able to push the hardware capabilities offered by the machines. mostly, my average usage is desktop/development (the old good g77 is my play ground too) under kde, nothing real esotheric but still, things like closing the roll top and having a machine unable to suspend really gets to my nerves ;-)
It is not trivial to port Linux software to MacOS X.
yeah, that's what i've been told, too.
On the other hand the booting of Linux is rather difficult due as the TiB boots using open firmware. BootX etc. does not work.
has it anything to do with yaboot, or something like that? f. -------------------------------------------------------
