accented characters, SuSE 7.1
Hi, First off, if anyone from SuSE is reading this list, congratulations on an excellent distro. I'm really floored by how easy it was to install and configure SuSE, especially given my experience with other distributions for PPC. With that said, I need some help now. By and large, I communicate in English, but on occasion, I need to compose emails in Spanish. What I need to figure out how to do is switch keyboard configurations on the fly, or how to send the accented characters and tildes. I tried the directions in the support database, but they didn't work for me. I also tried the International settings in KDE2, but they ended up screwing up my English keymap, and I had a hard time getting it back. For what its worth, I'm running SuSE 7.1 out of the box, with Gnome. Accented characters appear correctly in the terminal, but I just can't seem to make them myself! I'm also using an external extended USB keyboard, by Macally. Any ideas? TIA... Bob ......................................... PhD Candidate, Development Soc, Cornell U. Try something like that (and be careful, dont use a PC map!): /usr/X11R6/bin/xkbset -l "xfree86:macintosh:complete:complete:macintosh/us(extended)+macintosh/de(nodeadkeys):macintosh" You should modify the `+macintosh/de(nodeadkeys)` part. XFree86 4.1.0 contains two maps for spanish keyboards. There is a map for PC style keyboards, use `+macintosh/es(iso)`. The older ADB keyboards should use `+macintosh/es(basic)`.
