Trouble running SuSE7.0 with OrangeLink Firewire/USB PCI Card installed

Hi everyone, a couple of days ago I installed an OrangeLink Firewire/USB PCI Card in my beige G3 (266MT). Since then I haven't been able to boot into an existing SuSE 7.0 installation. I tried quite a few precompiled kernels (SuSE 2.2.14, SuSE 2.2.16, SuSE 2.2.18, SuSE 2.4.1, SuSE, 2.4.2, a couple of kernels from Benjamin Herrenschmidt and others) and none did work except for the official 2.2.19 kernel. Even that one only works after a cold restart. I wouldn't mind using that kernel but since using it my mouse stopped working under linux completly and I can't convince it to work. Any ideas? (I only want my mouse back - I'm not asking for a way how to use USB or Firewire under Linux) Gruss Marc

Official in which sense? From the Linus-Tree, or from one of the PPC-Trees?

This is an english list. Please write in english. Translation: I had the OrangeLink card installed when I set up SuSE 7.0 on my G3/300 MT. USB seems to work, while the firewire disk doesn't show up. Linux resides on a second disk and everything worked from the beginning. Kernel is 2.2.16. Maybe you should reinstall with the card inside. Torsten Peter M Von Bueren wrote:

What .config did you use? Maybe you should use /boot/vmlinuz.config and run make oldconfig. Backup your current working copy. The 2.2.19 Kernel from kernel.org should work fine on all pmacs until Summer 2000. Special hardware like your addon card is a diffent story. I would suggest to report your expirience with that card to the linuxppc-dev list. Send the dmesg output and lspci -vvx. http://lists.linuxppc.org/ Don't expect a fix on the same day :=) Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...
