Something to try, copy the vmlinux oldworld to your harddisk (I created a small hfs partition for it) also bootx on the harddisk and try to start from there. If that does not work also copy the compressed linux on the cd to the hd partition and try that with bootx pointing to the image on the hd. I have it working on a s900 , but I have not tried it on my powerbase. (which belongs to my wife and I need to create a hfs to start on that). Just a few ideas.

question, this may be minor, but did you point to the kernel in bootx with a name like vmlinux - old xxx (I am at work) , and did you point to the compressed version on the suse 7.3 disk of the image?
Yes, I tried both the "install - oldworld" and "vmlinuz - oldworld", which are on the install CD in the suseboot drive. Neither worked beyond the mentioned point.
