beige G3 only 800x600?

Hi, I have been trying to set up XFree86 v4 on a beige G3 with 6 MB of video RAM to accept 1024x768 for resolution with a Samsung TFT 570 for some days now. But I utterly fail. The max I achieve to get out of it are 800x600. Am I missing some restrictions. Also, I have a running screen if a switch to console modus. It's plainly unbearable.
