I have had a horrible time getting the stable v10.0 to install on my PowerMac 9600. I have tried it with both the 604ev/300 and the Sonnet G3/400 and tried different video cards and everything to no avail. I keep getting MD5 sum errors on the packages when it tries to install them. Or, I get errors, and after hitting retry it works. I am currently working on my 5th attempt to get it to install. I had it installed once, but could not get X to work. Here's my specs: PM9600/300 - Kansas motherboard 604ev/300/1M or Sonnet G3/400/1M Adaptec 2940UW PCU card flashed with the Apple ROM ATI Rage II PCI card w/ 4MB VRAM IXM Twin Turbo w/ 4MB VRAM 256MB RAM Apple 24x SCSI CD drive on the Adaptec card(Also tried it on the NCR and MACE controllers) 8x SCSI CDRW I had no real problems getting v10.0/RC3 installed on this machine other than the problem with the ATI video bug. I have found that I can get around it by installing the system with the IXM card, setting it to boot into Runlevel 3, and then replacing the IXM card with the ATI card and configuring it with SaX2. However, this time, I was unable to get SaX2 to properly config the ATI card and X failed no matter what I tried. I can get the IXM card to work into X, but it is a pain. This time I installed it with a minimal setup, but YaST still managed to fail when I inputted my user info, and I had to reboot. Fortunately, it took the root password this time, and I was able to restart YaST and I am trying to install the rest of the stuff. now, with error after error. I burned these CDs the same way I did the RC3 cds, and the config of the machine is basically the same. I haven't attempted to install it on my 7500 or my Beige G3/266 to see if I can duplicate it yet, but that is my next step. Also, I guess I will see about getting a newer ATI 7xxx video card so long as it will work properly unlike the Rage II card that I have now. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. ___________________________________________________ Try the New Netscape Mail Today!
