I just read the news at http://www.pegasos.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=752&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0 that IBM released a beta of Java 5.0 Standard Edition for PPC. If it works, could it be included in the next alpha? It's available at http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/java5beta/
Please open a bug and assign it to skh@suse.de.
I opened a bugreport ( https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=121964 ). It seems to work mostly, as it compiles and runs java applications. But I couldn't get the browser plugin running. "about:plugins" lists the plugin, the associated file tipes, versions, etc, but if I load a page with a Java applet, it does not run but suggests to download a missing plugin... The documentation mentions somewhere, that it was compiled with GCC 3, and should work with Mozilla 1.4-1.6 as in SLES 9. openSUSE 10.0 was compiled with GCC 4 and has later Mozilla versions. Could that be a problem? Bye, Peter
