I have an older imac , a first generation G 3 . I tried 7.1 and it didnt even boot . I installed 6.4 with great ease and setup the 56k modem and got er working in a few hours after doing the hard drive partitioning with OS 9 . I had to delete the old OS 8.6 in the format of the drive and partitioning but the end result is an old out of date imac with 9.0 and a working suse linux that rawks . I had thourble with 7.1 on all older generation boxes , for developers I suggest purchasing and having a few distros around of a single architechture , I have free bsd 4.0 and learned on that and later bought 4.4 and since I buy older used gear for home use I am finding that the older kenels and packages work much better and smoother on the older achitechture . Suse the new Suse 8.0 doesnt even work on older X86 platforms , you need SD RAM , the EDO doesnt cut the mustard . I like the new ALSA and the easy to use 8.0 distro , it's a great desktop and user friendly box but for server spening the enegy and money to have several distros around is worth the time and effort cause you can get what you want every time you turn on that home PC . For new users it must be difficult having a distro that SAYS it is easy to use and setup BUT it is developed for NEW gear . I gotta buy 7.3 or get a copy to have around it sounds nice , 6.4 is the stuff for me for developing and I like not having all the new setup utils cause hands on means you can see your mistakes as you type em . Thanks Suse for the great software ! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com
