Hello. I'm running Fedora Core 2 on an Celeron/SIS chipset PC with a custom built 2.6.6 kernel with Peter Osterlund's packet-2.6.6.patch.bz2 applied. CD Writer is a HP DVDWriter dvd300i with the 3.00 firmware. This hardware works well on a 2.4.20 kernel using ide-scsi emulation but I gather that's an unacceptable topic these days :^) A blend of shell commands and /var/log/messages below: May 31 12:49:38 hal kernel: hdc: Hewlett-Packard DVD Writer 300, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive May 31 12:49:38 hal kernel: hdd: ASUS DVD-ROM E616, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive ... ay 31 12:49:38 hal kernel: hdc: ATAPI 40X DVD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33) May 31 12:49:38 hal kernel: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20 May 31 12:49:38 hal kernel: hdd: ATAPI 48X DVD-ROM drive, 512kB Cache, UDMA(33) ... # pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/hdc May 31 13:17:07 hal kernel: pktcdvd: v0.1.4a 2004-05-16 Jens Axboe (axboe@suse.de) and petero2@telia.com May 31 13:17:11 hal kernel: pktcdvd: writer 0 mapped to hdc # mount /dev/pktcdvd0 /mnt/cdrw -t udf -o rw,noatime May 31 13:17:50 hal kernel: pktcdvd: inserted media is CD-RW May 31 13:17:50 hal kernel: pktcdvd: Fixed packets, 32 blocks, Mode-2 disc May 31 13:17:50 hal kernel: pktcdvd: Max. media speed: 4 May 31 13:17:50 hal kernel: pktcdvd: write speed 4 May 31 13:17:53 hal kernel: pktcdvd: 590464kB available on disc May 31 13:17:54 hal kernel: UDF-fs INFO UDF 0.9.8.1 (2004/29/09) Mounting volume 'gpv_cd', timestamp 2004/05/15 13:48 (12d0) (That 2004/29/09 date looks a little futuristic...). Everything looks OK so far but when I try and browse the disk there are no files shown. This is a UDF Rev. 1.50 disk made using HP's DLA software under another OS on the same machine and is known to contain lots of data. Any suggestions on how to get this working are welcome. Thanks, Graham

Try kernel 2.6.7-rc2. It contains an udf bug fix that I think fixes this problem. -- Peter Osterlund - petero2@telia.com http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340
