problem with disk formatting (cdrwtool) and other UDF troubles
Hello. Can anybody help me ? My system: RedHat 7.2 (2.4.17, gcc-2.95-3), IDE CDRW drive Mitsumi 4805, udf tools from udf-0.9.5 package. I successfully compile patched kernel 2.4.17 with UDF write support (with loadable modules) and now able to read and write to UDF CDRW disc (formatted by DirectCD 5.0 for Windows). But two problems remains: 1. I can't succesfully read files (writed by DirectCD) in folders on CDRW disk (perhaps problem with absence of owner/group information) - only in root of /mnt/cdrw directory. Please look to end of the letter for this problem. 2. I cannot finish formatting of CDRW disk with cdrwtool usage: --- [root@my home]# cdrwtool -d /dev/cdrom -q using device /dev/cdrom 1312KB internal buffer setting write speed to 12X Settings for /dev/cdrom: Fixed packets, size 32 Mode-2 disc ... Initiating quick disc blank Disc capacity is 295264 blocks (590528KB/576 MB) Formatting track Writing UDF structures to disc 7200 (EET) /-120 --- At this place there are no response from cdrwtool (only CDRW LED turns again from red light to normal yellow ; i can't eject disk, kill cdrwtool, ..) and CDRW drive is locked (disk ejecting possible only after reboot). On one website i found that last message from cdrwtool after disk formating should be "Quick setup complete!" and previous message should looks like "-14400 (EDT)/240". Whats up, cdrwtool format only half of disk ? Where i can find manual for udf tools ? Thank you. I have a question/problem, and I can't seem to find a way around it. I'm hoping someone here may have either run into it and solved it or shed some light as to what is causing the failure. Test Bed: 1) Red Hat 7.2, stock 2.4.7-10 kernel, but recompiled for UDF Read support 2) UDF formatted CDROM, created in a Win32 environment with Roxio's Direct CD. Two sessions were created, and both left open. 3) Parallel port adaptic cdrw burner Good News: When inserted the UDF cds can be mounted and viewed, all sessions included. mount -t udf /dev/cdrom /mnt/my_mount_here/ Problem: Issuing the 'dd' command fails when trying to image these CDs. Can anyone point to why dd would fail? Is this a driver issue somewhere? Is there something I have missed? I don't have the error in front of me at the moment and I apologize for that. I will have access to that later and have it available. In the interim, has anyone successfully used dd to copy a UDF cdrom? thanks! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? There may be blank tracks on the disc, and dd might have issues with the read errors it will get if it tries to read from them. Ben
