Hi All Folks, I have been looking around for prolonged time about packet-writing direct on CDRW on Linus environment similar to Roxio Direct-CD on Windows. I also tried to recompile kernel to make UDF writable without success. Could any folk on the list shed me some light. Thanks in advance. Stephen Liu
Stephen, Did you install the packet-cd kernel module? pktcdvd.o? After installing packet-cd kernel module, the proper thing to do is: 1. cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 (whatever the device is for your cdrw) -q (quick mode. It does a blank, format, and puts udf fs on the disk) 2. run pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/scd0 (whatever the device is for your cdrw) 3. Then you can mount the /dev/pktcdvd0 just like it were the cdrw device. mount -t udf /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrw 4. read/write to it freely like a hd or fd. Note: after running cdrwtool it will tell you how many blocks are estimated that it will write. Usually, for 700MB media, this will amount to the equivalent of 576MB. I've noticed though that it differs between drives. I can write up to 269952 blocks successfully. This is around 520MB. I hope this was helpful. I don't know it all, so if someone would correct me where I am wrong. I'd appreciate it. -Leo http://www.serverdown.dhs.org On Sun, 2002-10-06 at 17:53, Stephen Liu wrote:

No. Where can I find these packages. If I remember correct that previously I installed a packet-writing package downloaded from Internet.
- snip -
4. read/write to it freely like a hd or fd.
Splendid. That is what I have been searching for, Direct-CD on Windows environment After successful working on this tool I think I will migrate to Linux completely. Lot of thanks for your advice. Stephen

Stephen, Depending on what kernel you are running, you can find a patch here: http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/ -Leo On Mon, 2002-10-07 at 09:33, Stephen Liu wrote:
