First, I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to the Linux packet writing project. I really appreciate all your efforts. I would like to report success using Linux kernel 2.4.22 and an HP 9300 IDE CD/RW. After perusing the mailing list, I performed the following which is slightly different from the instructions at http://cvs.linuxfromscratch.org/index.cgi/hints/Attic/cdrw-hint.txt?rev=1.3 * For formatting the disk I used the command cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -q -t 4 . I added the -t 4 because I am using 1X-4X 650 MB Maxell RW CDs. Please note that it can take over 40 minutes to format a disk. * As stated in Richard's document, I can confirm that you do need to add the line alias block-major-97 pktcdvd to your /etc/modules.conf file if you build pktcdvd as a module and you want the kernel to automatically load it. I can now quickly copy, delete and move files from/to/on my CD RW just like any other drive. Needless to say, I am impressed since before I was constantly burning ISO9660 images every time I wanted to add or delete files. My portable CD player (Riovolt PSX100) recognizes these UDF linux written CD RWs (I believe the IRIVER portable CD players and others recognize packet written CD RWs as well). This has allowed be to easily and quickly add and delete MP3s to my CD RWs. Thanks once again to everyone involved.
