Hi there, I have a Mandrake 8.2 (sorry!) on a pentium II 300 MHZ laptop running. I have a parallel external cdwriter I have a usb multimemory reader/writer (MMC & SD, SmartMedia, compactFlash and Memory Stick) I have a internal DVD I was able to compile 2.4.19 with packetwriting and UDF suport I inserted the pkcdvd module and udf module cdrecord -scanbus gives me host 0 the dvd host 1 Multimemory reader/writer host 2 HP 7510e cd writer When I use xcdraost I can burn to my external writer I can also write and read to multimemory reader/writer I can also read dvd's How can I do packetwriting to the CD-WRITER? /dev/scd0 points to my dvd and there's no /dev/scd1. In fact I can't find any file in the /dev directory wich is pointing to my host2? thanks in advance Guy Forssman

How can I do packetwriting to the CD-WRITER?
pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/scd0 gives no error though I know scd0 is my internal dvd there is no /dev/scs1 devfs hasn't created one. pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/pg0 gives inappropiate ioctl for device pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd /dev/pg1 gives open cd-rom :no shuch devices can somebody please help me
/dev/scd0 points to my dvd and there's no /dev/scd1. In fact I can't find any file in the /dev directory wich is pointing to my host2?

First you need to figure out how to read files from the cdwriter. From your other messages, I got the impression that there is a problem with devfs and parallel port scsi, with the effect that no device node is created in /dev for your drive. -- Peter Osterlund - petero2@telia.com http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340

Hi There, I printed the scsi manual I printed the manual "Linux and parallel port ide devices" and I printed the manual "Parallel port ATAPI CD-R Information page" http://gear.torque.net/parport/paride.html http://gear.torque.net/parport/cdr.html On page 1:" There may be other CD writing software that also supports pg, but I am not currently aware of any. In particular, please do not expect to find a Linux implementation of UDF, the read/write file system used by Adaptec's Direct CD. You cannot mount pg devices, you must use a program like cdrecord to write to CDs. This is not a restriction of pg - you can't do this with SCSI or ATAPI CD-RW drives, either. " This is maybe the reason I can't mount my external paralel cdwriter and just copy files to the device. How can I proceed to do this anyway? Can I for instance mount my external parallel writer as pd with the epat protocol and the mount it? But how do I do that? thanx in advance Op vr 30-08-2002, om 19:41 schreef Peter Osterlund:

As I said, you first need to figure out how to read a file from the drive, and this has nothing to do with packet writing. You need to do something like: insert a disc in the external writer, load some modules, mount the filesystem, copy the file. If you can get this to work, please show exactly what commands you used. If you can't get it to work, the problem is not with packet writing and you will have to look somewhere else for help. -- Peter Osterlund - petero2@telia.com http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340
