Re: packetwriting kernel troubels
Is this problem with pktwriting in newer kernels still not fixed?
from dmesg:
UDF-fs: Partition marked readonly; forcing readonly mount UDF-fs INFO UDF 0.9.8.1 (2004/29/09) Mounting volume 'LinuxUDF', timestamp 2007/06/25 00:57 (1078)
mount -o remount,rw,noatime /dev/pktcdvd/<devname> does the trick.
In my experience this seems to be the fault of the drive. Trying to mount a UDF formatted DVD-RAM disk for writing with a Plextor-750 will force a read-only mount. I then have to issue a remount: mount -t udf -o remount,rw,noatime ... Now I can write to the disk. But using the same disk with a LG GSA-4167B drive, this behavior does not occur. I can mount the disk for writing directly: mount -t udf -o rw,noatime ... With this LG drive there is no need to issue a remount. Also, using the Plextor I experience other problems with DVD-RAM and UDF which are absent with the LG. Unfortunately, the logs show no informative messages of any kind and I have no way of debugging this further. I would suggest that, if possible, you try a different DVD drive and report back here.
