i tried to cdrwtool -d /dev/sr0 -b fast -p0 -q a CD but it throws out with errors. i thus have to suffice with a 576Mb udf filesystem.
is there anyway to use the full cd?
Only by using Mt. Rainier (if your drive supports it) instead of packet-writing. IIRC, this allows you to use the full capacity of the disc. I think there's a kernel patch, but I don't know how reliable it is as I don't have a drive that supports it. The loss of capacity (74m CDs go to about 531MB, 80m to about 576MB as you have found) is to do with the 'gaps' that have to be left between packets of data in order to give the drive time to turn the laser on and off cleanly, and to identify the locations of the packets on the disc.
