Only by using Mt. Rainier (if your drive supports it) instead of packet-writing. IIRC, this allows you to use the full capacity of the disc. I think there's a kernel patch, but I don't know how reliable it is as I don't have a drive that supports it.
As far as I know, you loose roughly the same, if not more blocks with Mt. Rainier as with packet writing. You can always use bigger packet sizes to decrease the loosage, though I dunno how the packet driver would handle it. Ben
