Hello list, I walk trow the Internet to see the state of udf on Linx, I see udftools, and pktcdvd driver includded in mainline kernel. In my experiments I use CD-RW CMC 24x, Sony 4X+RW media, Sony 1X-RW media, and Mellody 2.5+RW Media, with all media I can use udffs, but trying to repeat the proces not always work, and External FireWire/USB2.0 case with a Pioneer DVR110D [1.22]. My first try was wonderful, Just I choose one DVD+RW put them onto my DVR110D and just format with mkudffs cause dvd+rw are true random writable (pktcdvd not needed). When I try to repeat the experiment even with the non anymore virgin disk, the experiments goes worst than I wish :(, errors on some sectors, segfaults of mkudffs, or just cannot write, read only media, diferents errors with cdrwtool and more, the disk are clean of dust and have no scratches of course and was virgings the 1st time. For example I got the error "trying to change multiple type of extents" many times, and I'm sure dbus, ivman or hald are really dead, the error looks like trying to open the /dev/sr0, is being read only, cause is happening when mkudffs try to open /dev/sr0 for O_RDRW flag, too weird. This is not directly related to packet writing sorry, but someone knows why the virgin media can be oppened for O_RDRW, and why not quick erased media can O_RDRW again?. Well, then loading pktcdvd driver and making pktsetup any /dev/sr0 I got the special device /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0 that can be used for format, but sometimes not allways, for example I was being forced to write the udf fs over a loop file to write with growisofs to allow mkudffs to format again +rw or -rw media. There is any working proper way to setup a media, or always is to be randomly weird, at least the disc is completely virgin of course. regards. -- Gustavo Guillermo Pérez Compunauta uLinux www.compunauta.com
