[opensuse-packaging] firebird maintainer wanted
Hi, We have a firebird (the opensource SQL database) package in the server:database buildservice project (https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=firebird&project=server%3Adatabase). Unfortunately, this package isn't maintained since some time, which is a pity, because the server:database repository is offered as a community repository in YaST and is advertised as the "Latest updates for database software including Firebird and MySQL". So, is there a firebird user who would like to revive the package? It needs updating to the latest and greatest and fixing build on 64bit. If you're interested, just tell me your buildservice account. And don't worry, the friendly people in the #opensuse-buildservice will always help you with rpm or buildservice issues ;-). I initially tried to add firebird support to PHP using that package and/or one I built myself, however the firebird build system was seriuosly fubar'ed last year.. and I gave up :-P dunno if the situation has improved recently, debian has a patchset that makes situation a bit better though. Im willing to help with this package, however I need more hands working on it..anyone ? ;-) otherwise, I wont fix it ;-P -- "Progress is possible only if we train ourselves to think about programs without thinking of them as pieces of executable code.” - Edsger W. I have never used firebird but would like to use it and help in maintaining the package. :) Firebird support in php would be awesome. cheers, Jeffery -- Powered by openSUSE 10.3 (X86-64) Kernel: 2.6.22.17-0.1-default KDE: 3.5.7 "release 72.9" 6:55pm up 1 day 21:59, 7 users, load average: 0.59, 0.59, 0.57 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

FWIW, I can help fixing makefiles as well. But I think we need someone who actually knows firebird (a bit at least).
