You're reading more into this than there is. We have roughly a 8 months release cycle. 10.3 release was 4th of October, 11.0 will be 12th of June (AFAIR) which is 8 months. This is even less than between 10.2 and 10.3. It seems you missed my ';-)'. And I guess you understood Stephan's "slower" as "later" but I sent a jokey comment about the consequences of "slower" (i.e. if the speed decreased how fast Beta1 would come compared to how fast Alpha1 is coming) - or in other words: What happens if the speed of the coaches in a train differs? To make it 100% totally clear for all readers: My comment was of course not meant seriously. The left row is directly from the PDB. It is the ppc version of lilo, not the i386 one (which pdb cannot differ). And lilo for ppc is something completely different, which is why I'm currently arguing with olh to rename it to something like powerlilo or plilo. Should be reduced a recommends I would think. the spec file already differs between building in the build service or with internal build system, so it's there. Not sure where this one comes from. The specfile for libsensors3 doesn't mention libnotify anywhere. The only thing it depends on it libsysfs, but libsysfs doesn't need libnotify either. I've just rebuilt the libsensors3-32bit package internally and it doesn't have this dependency. So I can only guess that it was a transient bug in the build system. -- Jean Delvare Suse L3 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

Using one system version of then instead of statically linking different versions in different products would help even to save some space on the install media. Not speaking about the hassle a security update would be if one had to rebuild OpenOffice.org and Inkscape instead of just upgrading a little tiny library. And it is not like these libraries are under-maintained. Apart a thorough pro-active QA ever release is exposed to, I am able to fix issues in a time of hours and release a new upstream version if needed. Moreover, all these libraries are packaged currently in my BS home project - home:fstrba. It is possible that the spec files could be criticized by the public and have some little problems, but as a starting point, they are reputed to work on all platforms I am building for. I would like to comment though on one thing. I don't thing that it is really necessary to have the package name redundant like libwps-0_1-1. All libraries that I maintain, I make the build system the way that between two minor releases they are parallel installable including the devel files. The reason is that they are C++ libraries and adding a method to an interface class makes them to break ABI. And since different products that depend on them might have different release cycles, it is highly likely that one will have to have two versions during some time on the system. That is why the sonames are libwps-0.1.so.1.X.Y as well as libwpd-0.8.so.8.X.Y. The other reason is that win32 build using libtool is addint the libtool versioning normally to the dll name, so I avoid the libtool versioning in the makefiles and rely on the library name only. That is why I would propose that the packages produced be called libwpg1 libwpg1-devel and libwpg-tools. This would be enough to distinguish them without really making the name too complicated. The libwpg-tools I would leave it without the versioning, because libwpg-tools produced by libwpg-0.1.x will not be parallel installable with those produced by libwpg-0.2.x. Thanks again for your work and please, people, consider this considerations. dunno if this has been discussed/proposed elsewhere, and it isn't a version update either, but shouldn't we finally rename the "xntp" package into "ntp"? I know this may appear as a cosmetical issue, but according to <http://www.ntp.org/ntpfaq/NTP-s-def.htm#AEN1422>: In practice xntp refers to an implementation of version three or older while ntp refers to implementation of version four (or later). As a former maintainer of xntp I'd agree that now is the time to finally get it renamed. Thus SLE11 wll also get the renamed package. Always take the result with grain of salt, upgrade is still at your discretion.
Ciao, Marcus [...]
kssingvo cups 1.3.4 1.3.5
Version 1.3.5 was already submitted to STABLE when I received your mail (2-3 days ago), but the checkin was delayed.
kssingvo html2text 1.3.2a 1.6.1
The first is the still actual version of the C program, the later is the version of the PHP script. Two different programs with the same name. Please distinguish here.
kssingvo lynx 2.8.6 2.8.7dev.7
The later is the development tree, similar to the development tree of the kernel. Due to robustness reasons I think we should not provide such a version.

Very funny. :-( Still we are at latest version now again. Submitted latest version yesterday, but checkin isn't done yet. I think, if you blame on people in the public (!) about being late at their work, and as a result leaving credits on them, I expect that you check out your database double, before doing so. Sorry, but it leaves always a bad taste in my opinion, if you do it in such a denouncing way. A personal e-mail might should do better in future. Thanks for understanding. Sorry, but it leaves always a bad taste in my opinion, if you do it in such a denouncing way. A personal e-mail might should do better in future. Thanks for understanding.
Oh come on, no-one blamed anyone. It was just a gentle reminder with the remark that the result is automatically generated. I think, if you blame on people in the public (!) about being late at their work, and as a result leaving credits on them, I expect that you check out your database double, before doing so. Klaus, I did not see anything denouncing in Marcus mail. Furthermore, I really appreciate that Marcus is doing such kind of collection in the public, what helps everybody where work is needed. In this way everybody, inside and outside of Novell, can prepare updates and tell the responsible person about. This helps us all. I was also part of the list and yes, I was busy with other stuff to do before. But I do not recipe this list as blaming me, just as collection of what needs to be done. The problem, that already submitted, but not yet accepted submissions are not visible will be fixed within the next 2.5 month. In that way, false positives can be sorted out fast. Again, thank you Marcus for providing this service. bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) email: adrian@suse.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org
