[opensuse-packaging] 11.3 RC1 approaching
Hi, I just declined quite some package submissions to factory, that make me believe I'm not clear enough about where we stand with openSUSE 11.3: we will have the last checkin round next friday! If you submit a package to factory now, it should be very clear why it's necessary to change it. "some things were fixed" is _NOT_ a reason to me! I don't really want these "only critical bug fixes" policies anymore, but with every submission at the moment, it should be clear to _me_ why we need it. Often enough a bugzilla reference is very helpful to fulfill this goal. Greetings, Stephan
I was wondering if it would be worth creating/opening the 11.3 update test channel at this point. If these are good fixes to less than critical bug, it would be nice to not lose them and have them ready to go when 11.3 is released. Which Friday? Am I too late with https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/41301 ? Also, what is the policy, if I modified a package? Can I approve it myself and forward to Factory as maintainer or I better wait for peer review? We have no policy here. If you are the maintainer and you are sure to the necessary degree you can forward it of course. Actually, as the maintainer you can directly work in the devel project and submit it without the need to prepare it in another branch project. You can even submit directly to factory, by passing the devel project even when you are not the maintainer. But this should be the exception and the risk that your submission will get refused is quite high. bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE Linux Products GmbH email: adrian@suse.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

OK. There were some patches sent my Marius (Novell maintainer for syslog-ng), which were originally for syslog-ng 2.0.9, and fix some critical problems (some bugzilla entries not accessible even for me :- ) ), or earlier critical bugs. These were accepted / forward ported / reworked by upstream on my request (I work part time for the upstream developer). I integrated them into the SuSE package and tested them. So, from my PoV I'm quite sure and forwarded it.
Actually, as the maintainer you can directly work in the devel project and submit it without the need to prepare it in another branch project.
Ah, OK. This is the first and only package, where I'm co-maintainer, so I still don't know all of my possibilities... Bye, CzP

It's peer reviewed anyway and it's up to you if you need some expert. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org
