Could someone consider packaging game Dark Oberon and placing it somewhere in http://software.opensuse.org/download ?
Sorry, for lack of link :-)
I will as one of the authors is a friend of mine :) -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o Package Maintainer Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

The problem is the game needs libraries which are not packaged yet. Namely: GLFW 2.5 (http://glfw.sourceforge.net/) and FMOD (http://fmod.org/) which is available in PackMan repo. Maybe we can put them in games:libs. I am offering a help. Btw. Three of the authors are friend of mine. ;) Regards Ladislav. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

Neither GPL but seems compatible http://glfw.sourceforge.net/license.html
and FMOD (http://fmod.org/) which is available in PackMan
... and it isn't under GPL.
I know. License: ...if your product is not intended to make any money, and is not charged for in any way, then you may use FMOD in it for FREE!... IMHO This can be published in Build Service but not in SUSE products. Yes, but we can't publish GPL'd Dark Oberon linked against FMOD, because we can't fulfil the GPL. Is it really violating GPL? IANAL Regards Ladislav.

It seems to me, that the source code is not available (for the library). And even if it would be, it would have to be distributable/modifiable. IOW it would have to be under GPL or BSD/MIT/whichever other FSF compatible license. :) Petr --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

As Petr explained, it would. But you wrote that you know the authors of the game, perhaps you could convince them to release the game under a license that actually allows redistribution? :) Michal --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

If you had looked into BuildService, you would have seen that these libs are already in this OBS project. There is no problem with GLFW, but there are with FMod. There is an older branch called FMod (3.75), which is distributed only in binary form and only for x86. I wrote to developers and they have no intention to release binaries for x86_64 as they are concentrating on newer version called FMODex (currently at 4.06.20). So basically there are 3 options (not counting license problems): a) leave Dark Oberon as it is, linked against 32bit FMOD b) rewrite Dark Oberon to use new FMODex API (also available for 64bit) c) rewrite Dark Oberon to use another audio library -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o Package Maintainer Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org
