Hi, NM, I asked the same question before. And some persons told me that patch may affect their liberation-sans, I felt like... well... But today I don't suggest to do so. 1. That patch sets releases a long time after every freetype2 release. (not in a same release cycle) So it'll be very hard to maintain such patches. (old patch set doesn't work on new freetype, and new patch set is not yet released. as a packager, if you just make it work, then there'll be stability issues; if you make it work perfectly, you're releasing the its new release) 2. That patch set certainly will not break the fonts it doesn't adjust(eg: liberation-sans), but it has known stability issues with firefox and bitmap fonts.( I once promoted it a lot in Chinese community and then received a lot of issues on forums.) It also has a most famous LD_PRELOAD issue. On infinality forum, its father said like this, this issue comes from I didn't set it to replace default freetype2 library, because it's not stable enough to be a system default (kind of this meaning). and only LD_PRELOAD can provide the functions I need. And the workaround is easy, to change the path in infinality-setting.sh or something. But why do we want to use a even unstable in developer's eyes patch as our default? 3. If you want to use it personally, take you own risk. It's already in home:opensuse_zh. I'm the maintainer. If you trust me, you can trust my work. 4. I can accept it in M17N:Devel for testing purpose, but main M17N(develop repository of freetype2)? nope...for now. Hope it helps Marguerite -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org
snip Thanks Marguerite! My interest is just if it's OK to build the packages on OBS, I don't have any plans to submit them to openSUSE distro, neither maintaining them for the general public. About issues with Liberation... that's cool with me, I don't need them, neither they are a better option to the original microsoft fonts or ubuntu :) NM -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org
