[opensuse-packaging] Package looking for volunteers: CodeAnalyst
As per https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=793541 it seems CodeAnalyst needs a new maintainer. Any volunteer? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

I'd have thought the better question would be whether anyone uses it and whether it should be dropped. AMD initially requested the package but has no interest in keeping it maintained and no user has ever complained about the version being stale. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

AMD tends to abandon stuff (not sure about Analyst, I only know about its GPU tools). That doesn't mean they cease to be useful. Very few alternatives out there for many of them. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

So you are a user of CodeAnalyst? From personal experience of maintaining oprofile (the underlying tool for CodeAnalyst) it's interesting how lightly used (going by #bug-reports) it is on openSUSE versus SLES. Anyways, I know pth did actually update the package version once, so maybe he has a counter opinion. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

No, but I'm a user of oprofile (and am in fact trying to make it build again). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

Nope, I only did the update because it was way out of sync and a user asked if it could be updated. I do not use the package and thus am in favour of dropping it because of missing maintainer. So it sounds like there is at least one user ;) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

Well, at least there was ;) If there still is I don't know. I'd still say drop if no responding maintainer. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

It's building now and submitted to Factory. Updates are upto someone else. I've made myself a note to check for an updated version with a new maintainer in a month. If this hasn't happened by then it needs to bye-bye. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

I'll try to take a look at updating it to the latest release. If it goes smooth, I'll sign up as maintainer. It will probably be 2 or 3 weeks before I get a chance to look at it. Someone else had already offered. Frankie Onuonga <onuonga@live.com> (see bnc#793541). I suppose if there are several candidates, one who's interested in the technology itself would be better assuming equivalent packaging skills. Cristian's reasonable criteria was that you show capability to branch&update the package, basically what you suggest. Sounds reasonable but no point two people doing it, so feel free to sort it out amongst the two of you. Thanks very much! Frankie, It's all yours, but if you have any issues, feel free to ask (or punt). I've got 20 or 30 packages I suspect I maintain in factory, so I've got at least a little experience. Noone has stepped forward since this discussion from last year. Unless someone does in next couple of days I'm going to drop the package (It's broken now since the most recent oprofile 0.9.9 update). What process do I need to follow to drop it? Send a drop request for openSUSE Factory - and once it's accepted there, you can drop it from the devel project.
