[opensuse-packaging] How to add updates to openSUSE 11.2

Hi, I submitted a sr for an updated rear package to openSUSE:11.2:Update in the hope to get it into the Update repo. 1) Is this the correct process for updates? 2) Whom to bug if I get no response? How long should I wait for a response? Regards, Schlomo PS: Yes, I know I did it over the weekend and probably nobody looked into it yet. I just wanted to ask about the process... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

See the maintenance page Thomas posted. We usually do not do version upgrade just for doing version upgrades. The communication method is bugzilla "NEEDINFO maintenance@opensuse.org" Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

Hi, thanks for the info, I just opened the bug...

What about projects that simply release SVN snapshots from time to time in which they added all available bugfixes? In case of rear almost all of the bug fixes are somehow related to somebody not beeing able to recover their system. Since rear deals a lot with hardware, we maintainers have no way to test everything in advance and must rely on user feedback. Wouldn't it be in the interest of our users to get such bug fixes back into the distro on a regular base? Maybe it would prevent a failed disaster recovery for somebody who never tried it out before? I mean thats true for a lot of packages. We cannot just update half the distro every month ... For newer and more stable versions we have Factory and then openSUSE 11.3. If there are critical bugs, or bugs found or directly affecting our installations than we can consider it. Also weighed against the number of users. If rear has critical bugs that make recovery in our usage scenarios not possible than a update is probably worth doing.
