[opensuse-packaging] How to choose the devel project
Hi, Couple of days ago I have asked fbi package to be in multimedia:photo, which provides exiftran. The request was accepted and I am the maintainer of this package along with rapid-photo-downloader However, I have now slight problem with fbi package building since libpcd-devel is not available in this project. libpcd resides in graphics and many photography related software are also in the graphics project developed. I am planning to submit rapid-photo-downloader to factory, but it requires exiftran, part of the fbi package that is not building, so the main question is should I 1) request packages (rapid-photo-downloader and fbi which I am the maintainer for both) to be in graphics or 2) request package libpcd to have a link to multimedia:photo and if so how do I do it with osc or is there an alternative way of achieving what I want Because at the end when I submit rapid-photo-downloader; fbi and libpcd need to be submitted as well otherwise the package will not function and zypper / yast will complain that the required package is not available not to mention the fact that factory team will not even consider the package Thanks Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

There is your answer. Submit all the dependencies first to factory, then it doesn't really matter anymore in which devel project fbi is. But if I am not the maintainer how can I submit the package, in this specific case libpcd from graphics project. I thought only the project group members or the maintainer of the package could do that Am I missing the obvious here Thanks Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

You can submit yourself but one of the maintainers from the graphics project will have to approve it. Ok that I can do but this brings another question how does one become the maintainer of a project. For example I am maintainer of two packages in the graphics project (darktable and jhead) but I am not one of the maintainers of the project Thanks Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

You do a lot of maintainance and then ask for a role later on :) Regards. - -- Ismail Dönmez - openSUSE Booster SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJPqQK7AAoJEJrs5hT7LFEclBUIAJ5KWQATM/E+94ANBYFgHMq1 jTO8bJGkyNidSKwHOwZ17tldhuuCQpmrkivumPV1Bxt63LAXDiUBfLWJ9hfImCeN fjflWcZVccSIJKuqs5Zwxi7lrStT+2hHe6zazuiDYXAnJWER8g4EeHD+rIpFCA6a qL6Wwx47TP54aHbOXWb9697QPE47i3WZkjLmXYy74fmdjn49mS/iwZjXRMQfVn4p lSXexdPG8I52BGv0W+oQRw6rXPk9yH8Bcpj9h0CJJ53wyoTQYq2v4B0/Z9btfB+F UseaRrBTwqU0EjNcjyyTJFwTic2UFEm5xgn6BDmDNdvqqWvOwuvviSymyxax3OM= =kMkU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

You convince the maintainer that he should submit it or you convince the maintainer that you share the maintainership so you can submit it to Factory. Apparently it does matter as my requests are being denied for the reason multimedia:photo is not a devel project. If it is not a devel project what the heck it is doing there, as with this decline comment it is as good as a home project of a user, the only difference being group home project (: 116719 State:declined By:factory-auto When:2012-05-08T13:54:36 submit: multimedia:photo/fbi -> openSUSE:Factory Comment: 'multimedia:photo' is not a valid devel project of openSUSE:Factory - please pick one of the existent 116728 State:declined By:factory-auto When:2012-05-08T14:06:03 submit: multimedia:photo/rapid-photo-downloader Comment: 'multimedia:photo' is not a valid devel project of openSUSE:Factory - please pick one of the existent Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

Okay that's of course a totally different case. Chose an existing devel project that fits. How about graphics? :) Next time you should check this stuff before submitting the package... done and thanks to Ismail they are part of graphics and enroute to factory via 116750 and 116751

I always thought everything other than home projects could be used for devel factory, mea culpa Thanks anyway Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org
