[opensuse-packaging] /etc/ssl stuff
Hi, I'm updating a few packages from MATE (a few such as in all); I'm getting a small problem and right I haven't got the opportunity of installing a test system with RC1 to test this changes. Anyone could be kind enough to supply me the output of this: rpm -q --whatprovides /etc/ssl Or eventually the name of the package with provides the default CA certificates ? Or eventually the name of the package with provides the default CA certificates ?

The ca-certificates* packages. Why? Ciao, MArcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Marcus,
One of MATE packages is a fork of gnome-keyring; it needs the CA's to
build properly; in the past it seemed to be OK but something changed,
either the certificates aren't being pulled in Factory or within the
package itself; The badness on rpmlint is working fine and states that
for inclusing on SUSE products it requires SUSE Security Team
validation; this is just for testing purposes on my repo, so I
manipulate badness of those warnings to 'informative' numbers :)
My last build failed because ca-certificates wherent there.
https://build.opensuse.org/package/files?package=mate-keyring&project=GNOME%3ACinnamon%3AMATE
That's the package, but I haven't updated it yet.

Seems to build now... Does MATE fork various GNOME packages (needlessly?), because this looks pretty much like gnome-keyring? Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

MATE, and Cinnamon differ from standard Gnome, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. Yes Gnome and Cinnamon / Mate base on GTK, but so does LXDE. AFAIK Cinnamon / Mate try to implement the look and feel of Gnome2/GTK2+ but base on GTK3. So far they try NOT to use any Gnome-Libs. The forking of the Apps and Widgets was not needlessly, but to get the dependencies on Gnome-Libs out of them. Which gnome libs? If you're talking about libgnome/libgnomeui/gnome-vfs/etc., then GNOME has been working on getting rid of them since at least GNOME 2.20 and those were nearly not used anymore as of GNOME 2.32 :-)
And the upstream Gnome-Devs would in no way support that kind of shism internally.

Cinnamon is a fork of gnome-shell, as muffin is a fork of mutter; MATE is a pure fork of GNOME2 base stack.
AFAIK Cinnamon / Mate try to implement the look and feel of Gnome2/GTK2+ but base on GTK3.
Wrong; MATE will be offering a GTK+-2.0 experince.

They forked a lot of libs from GNOME..
The forking of the Apps and Widgets was not needlessly, but to get the dependencies on Gnome-Libs out of them.
The forking of apps is needlessly because whats the point in forking GEdit for example? Whats the point of forking the gnome-utils package? The system I have for MATE integration testing is not using all those needlessly package forks and using components form GNOME3, which are more developed (feature wise), look nicer and work as good :)

Seems to build now...
It happened while I tried to update to 1.4.0, which I haven't uploaded to OBS yet.
Does MATE fork various GNOME packages (needlessly?), because this looks pretty much like gnome-keyring?
Not really sure if we can say 'needlessly', since they are moving everything to a different namespace than GNOME; But yeah, it's pretty much a fork of gnome-keyring. Some packages are stupid forks if you ask me, for example GEdit and other minor apps. I guess we could go around this one and use GNOME keyring... but right now I haven't tested those kind of changes. My builds are trying to use as much components from GNOME3 as needed (ex: nautilus and metacity) and not native MATE forks liike caja (fork of nautilus) and marco (fork of metacity). I don't have really plans to submit this to openSUSE, though it's working it still requires a lot of integration and it won't happen in the next weeks since I'm going on holiday soon.
Ciao, Marcus
