[opensuse-packaging] java-devel provides error
Hi guy's, following the discussions here on the list, there is _always_ a java-devel provided to build against, and that should be used rather than some more specific sun-jdk as a buildrequires setting. Trying to do that, i got the expansion error for opensuse_Factory, because apparently nothing provides java-devel? Regarding a default java devel package, I do not share the opinion that this should be the oldest possible version that is working. I think it should rather be the _latest_ available version on the release. regards, denny --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

yes, this is currently broken,I try to fix it this week.

That would mean that can basically drop the old java, because all packages require the new one. That would be fine, but IIRC there are quite some packages requiering explicit the old ones ? -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) email: adrian@suse.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

+1, please use latest Java version.

Which ones? Couldn't they have a specific dependency on the older version? -- "After the vintage season came the aftermath - and Cenbe." IIRC, also base packages require the old ones, so the complete stack is down to that version. But I am no java packager, if someone from the team tells us to configure it differently, we will do it. Just all the java packages in Factory needs still working. -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) email: adrian@suse.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

It certainly depends on the package, but from my experience packages work general with newer java version. Considering the improvements in recent java versions, no package , expecially these using swing GUIs, shouldn't be using java 1.4.2 anymore. We could have a java/apps project in the build service with java desktop applications which are using the latest java version _ONLY_ . cheers, denny --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org
