[opensuse-packaging] Bringing SCPM back in the product
Hello list, I recently volunteered as maintainer for SCPM -- my goal is to bring it back into the official product by 11.4. Under the guidance of Vladimir Botka, I was able to successfully build SCPM for "Factory", and to install the resulting RPMs on a vanilla but fully updated OS 11.3 install. I also verified that the installed binary did accept to run. My repository is still unpublished at this stage. pan@kermit:~> osc r home:phandersson:branches:openSUSE:Dropped scpm openSUSE_Factory x86_64 succeeded (repository is unpublished) openSUSE_Factory i586 succeeded (repository is unpublished) Can any of you please advise as to what the next step should be ? Thanks in advance, Ph. A. -- *Philippe Andersson* Unix System Administrator IBA Particle Therapy | Tel: +32-10-475.983 Fax: +32-10-487.707 eMail: pan@iba-group.com <http://www.iba-worldwide.com>

I guess you updated the project via 'osc ci'? Then I'd say you issue a service request osc sr -m 'Bring SCPM back to life (bnc#<bugzilla_bugno>' home:phandersson:branches:openSUSE:Dropped scpm openSUSE:Factory That should bring scpm back to life :) Philipp -- Anything whose specification is too complicated to explain easily probably needs to be redesigned. --- David Abrahams on boost -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

That should bring scpm back to life :) Cool -- thanks. Will do.

Mind you, it's up to thr build team to accept the request so they might reject it. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

Mind you, it's up to thr build team to accept the request so they might reject it. I understand that. But I'm willing to do what's necessary to get it accepted -- among other things, get the grips of the code in order to be able to support it for the long term.
And to do the same for the companion GUI packages (sumf, kscpm, gscpm). Now, I know it doesn't cost much to say this. I'll have to prove that I can actually do it. Only time will tell, I guess. Ph. I've branched your branch and am looking at autoconfiscating scpm, i.e. make it use autoconf, automake and libtool. You'll get a sr if I have something ready to try :)

And I'll help you get your grips on maintenance. BTW, the foremost tool to look at is quilt for managing packages with patches. See http://nordisch.org for a quick howto. IMNSHO quilt is *the* essential tool for a maintainer/packager.
