[opensuse-packaging] openSUSE and QT locale against gettext
Hello, to make it a bit more user friendly I want to translate merkaartor (in BuildService Application:Geo). This is a QT4 software with tr()'s everywhere in the source, but no localisation done yet. Now my questions is - how to do that for openSUSE/linux? QT uses the linguist and it's own fileformat, whereas under linux gettext is used. Is there a style guide or a generic approach for QT localization under Linux? I know KDE uses gettext as well, but never looked into the details. I also did not find something helpful when using Google. Any tips? What's your problem with linguist? You also can use your preferred text editor to edit this XML files. I have no problem with linguist. I want to know how openSUSE does this. On my harddisk are only following .qm using packages: qt3, qt4, smplayer (from packman), hplip All of these 4 install in non-standard directories. The majority of tools uses gettext on the other hand and also uses standard directory structure (even KDE as major linux Qt application). So to ask what the correct approach for openSUSE is seems not so wrong before I start. BTW: I translate stuff since the early nineties using the Amiga locale, different gettext's for Unix and also the QT way. I do not prefer one, I only want to know a standard recomendation. Well, you need to install the files in a location where the application looks. I personally would install that in /usr/share/<application>/ since it's architecture-independent (and therefore not in /usr/lib{,64}). But if it's just you, it doesn't matter :)
