%setup assumes that tar xf <you source file> will create the folder %{name}-%{version}, which apparently is not what is packaged inside your tarball (this can happen). You have two choices: use %setup -n <the real folder name> or repackage the tarball with the folder name adjusted. (first option is obviously easier).
